Solo Arc: Searching the Shadows

Up until recently Umbral felt college was the right thing to do, but he has powers beyond that of a normal human, so why not try to expand on these powers and save people with them? He needed more training and the only place that can give him that training is the NSS, but if the NSS is going to train him, he is going to test them first.

As Umbral approached the NSS he realized how much more difficult this was going to be than he had previously thought, there were guards everywhere.

Umbral whispered quietly to himself, "no matter, this should be easy" as he slowly sank into the shadows that still lurked due to the early morning. "Time to move", Umbral spoke out in confidence as he began to move towards the least guarded side of the building.

Umbral easily moves through the shadows as if hes done this a thousand times, as he is approaching the only guard near him he notices a ventilation shaft a slight ways up the face of the building. Umbral thinks to himself "BINGO", as he begins to sneak around the guard.

Umbral continues to move through the shadows attempting to sneak past the guard unnoticed using Shadow Transportation [1-5 fail 6-10 success]

If successful Umbral makes it past the guard unnoticed.

If unsuccessful Umbral uses Shadow Emission to remain hidden but direct his shadows at the guard in an attempt to knock the guard out. [1-8 fail 9-10 success]

Once again Umbral easily sneaks past the guard snickering quietly to himself at how easy it was and continues to silently move up the face of the wall to the vent and then attempts to use Shadow Transportation to move into the vent.

If all three tries are unsuccessful Umbral decides to move onto the roof of the building using Shadow Transportation.

If Umbral is unsuccessful at Shadow Transportation up the wall he loses touch with his shadow and is forced out of it falling toward the ground.

Umbral Successfully entered through the vent through the shadows, after entering the vent Umbral realized he had no idea about the internals of the building and is presented with multiple pathways in the vent.

Umbral decides that the right vent is the best choice and begins to head down the right vent. Passing by open slits in the vent Umbral is able to see other heroes traversing the halls towards the location he is going and they seem to be getting ready for something.

As Umbral approaches an end in the vent he notices a large room that appears to be used for training. As he sat waiting for a period of time people began to enter the room. Umbral saw this as a opportunity to show his ability.

Umbral slid out of the vent through the shadows with little trouble and began to move into the center of the room in front of the people that were entering the room. As he is moving towards the center of the room some of the people begin to look towards Umbral's direction with slightly unnerving looks. It seems as though some of them can notice his presence.

Once centered in the middle of the room Umbral began to speak out in a sinister voice, "Hello there everyone, are you ready for me?" as he slowly began to rise out of the shadow, several people seem to ready themselves for a fight.

After leaving the shadow, it still seemed as if an ominous shadow still surrounded him, and he was ready to show his ability as he slowly rose his head and pointed at the group of people. Three people a girl and two guys moved towards Umbral out of the crowd of others and it seemed as if these three were the strongest of the group.

Umbral spoke out with surprising confidence, "who's first?" as one of the people from the group moved forward to accept Umbral's challenge.

The girl begins to walk towards Umbral and he begins to speak, "ah I am going to be fighting a gi-", as he is cut off by the girl lunging towards him with her hands forward in attack mode, the girl attempts to hit Umbral with a Induced Combustion ability.

Though Umbral is caught off guard by the girls attack he quickly evades the blast above him as he quickly takes to the shadows ready to counter-attack.

The others in the room also seem caught off guard by the girls willingness to attack Umbral so quickly, but its seems as if she is trying to show her dominance.

Umbral, now determined to show what he can do, attempts to launch his shadow outward toward the girl to hit her.

Umbral uses Shadow Emission to strike the girl as a claw like shadow balls into a fist and lunges at the girl at extreme speeds.

The girl looks in surprise as she attempts to dodge the dark essence flying at her.

The girl attempts to dodge the shadow but fails as the shadow is much to quick

The girl is hit in the chest at such a quick speed it launches her into the air backward toward a wall and is harshly forced into it cracking the wall slightly, as she falls to the floor she spits out a bit of blood. She appears to be in grave pain but quickly gets back to her feet ready to fight some more.


Umbral notices that one of the guys that is standing there gets angered by the outcome of Umbral's ability. The man raises both of his arms towards Umbral's location and attempts to manipulate the air around Umbral to send him into the air.

The girl that Umbral had hit quickly got back up on her feet though injured badly was ready to fight again. Umbral decided to come back out of the shadow to reposition himself and as he is coming out of the shadow a brush of air flowed passed Umbral as though someone had turned a fan on low. He noticed that a man was pointing his hands towards his location with a frustrated face and this was the source of the nice breeze.

Noticing that another man is trying to attack Umbral, he decides to counter attack after repositioning to another area.

Umbral moved through the shadows to behind the air manipulator to position himself to attack once again, as Umbral is moving the heroes are trying to pinpoint Umbral's position but they are finding it difficult as he is moving through the shadows that exist around the group of people.

Umbral tried to attack the Air manipulator but as his confidence grew to much he lost his concentration on his ability and his Shadow Emission attack gave away his position and failed as it slowly poured out of Umbral's Shadow a random hero grabbed at the arm like shadow and attempted to pull Umbral out of the shadow.

One of the heroes in the crowd pulled on Umbral's shadow and forces Umbral into the air, as he approaches the ceiling he touches the shadow on the ceiling and attempts to use Shadow Emission to swipe at the crowd of heroes below

As Umbral touches the ceiling he attempts to attack the heroes below but fails as his shadow appears to droop downwards towards them. All of the heroes below readied there attacks as Umbral fell towards them.

"FUCK", Umbral yelled out loudly as embarrassment and the understanding of incoming pain struck his face.

Umbral closed his eyes as he began to fall into the crowd of heroes...but he seemed stuck in place...Umbral slowly opened his eyes to notice that he was floating in air and also noticed all of the heroes standing quietly looking towards the entrance.

Umbral slowly turned his head and noticed an older man walking through the crowd of heroes towards him.

Umbral thought to himself, "I know this man..this is Sam Jackson..", Umbral then spoke out, "Hello Mr. Jackson, nice to finally meet you."

"Likewise", Jackson spoke out as he slowly moved Umbral back to the floor.

"I see you've met some of the other heroes Umbral", Jackson continued to speak, "Did you really think you could sneak in here without me knowing?"

Umbral spoke out in confidence, "It was worth a try, I wanted to see what this place was made of...and how do you know my name?"

Jackson Replied, "I know alot about you Umbral, do you think I would be in my position if I didnt do my homework?"

"Hmph", "I suppose not." Umbral replied in a annoyed voice.

Jackson continued, "and I would guess that you didnt come here just to attack people did you Umbral? If you join us we can train you and you can hone your skills to become better at what you do, and be one of us."

Umbral already knew that he wanted to continue training, but did he really want to join the NSS? Did he really want to become a part of an organization? Though Umbral had resided on the good side he had always had a problem with people and liked to be alone and never felt as though he would work well with people, but there was always room for change...

"Alright, I will join the NSS and recieve your training, I will...become one of you"
Umbral spoke out softly as he was then lead out of the training area by Samuel Jackson.
