4) Arc 2: State of Emergency (PVP)

Previously, in the land of Real Heroes: we had come to a stand still all across the country. A new division of evil has sprouted in the Midwest. The President of the United States has declared a state of emergency against all those bearing superpowers. Can our heroes overcome both the cruel hand of the government as well as the sinister forces of the Syndicate for World Domination?

Mission Briefing Room
5:30 PM CT

Epoch had walked with President Jackson as well as Quantum and Ms. Meltdown. On their way to the new briefing room, Jackson had given permission to Teaghan to tag along, since she was apart of the whole ordeal to begin with. Along their journey, that seemed a lot longer than it really should have, Epoch was subject to stares of other students. Most of these gazes seemed saddened, and some even angry. Today, Epoch had changed the world.

Jackson lead them into the Briefing Room and within sat three other men. Epoch eyed them, wondering exactly what these new characters would be able to do. "These," President Jackson started, "are your new partners." Starting from left to right, he named each one, "Umbral, manipulator of shadows; Illumin, controller of light; and last but not least, Changeling's replacement, Sol, avatar of the suns and stars."

Epoch looked at each of them, with slight scrutiny until he landed on Sol. Then it hit him, Changeling was gone. "Where's Changeling?" Epoch questioned.

"Changeling has retired," Jackson said gently, "last night he turned in his membership as well as pledging to end his powers by ending the masks. He wanted to find himself."

Epoch turned a cold eye to the floor and thought about that man who had saved his life only the day before. Swallowing the loss he looked up to the new comrades, "So, I'm Epoch, it's nice to meet you."

Occuring before the present time
Skylar quickly ran from his house. His rage starting to calm itself the further he got. He saw the police cars all speed towards the ruins of his house. He kept running. He didn’t know for how long he was running, all he knew was he had to keep going. As the night moved on, Skylar made his way into the town and went into the local convenience store. He is out of breath heavily.

Skylar huffs and puffs then grabs something to drink from the coolers. As he reaches for a 20 oz Mountain Dew, the tv behind the cashier catches his attention. His house was being reported. He closes the coolers and slowly makes his way closer to the TV so he can casually hear what was being said. Once within earshot, he heard everything.

“Tragedy struck the Raige house today when out of no where, it collapsed,” the anchor starts, “ No one knows for sure what happened but eye witnesses say it was the son of the house who did it.” Skylar immediately looks to the TV, eyes wide in shock as a video of his roar is being shown in poor quality. It looks to have been taken from a Cell Phone. “The son seems to possess powers that can topple buildings and even murder. If you come across this young man, do not engage him, call the police at once. He murdered his father, mother, and seven year old sister. There is no telling what he will do.” The anchor signs off.

Skylar grits his teeth. “Me? Murderer? I couldn’t, I never. No, no, NO! They are trying to make me look like the bad guy! How dare they! HOW DARE THEY!” Skylar’s rage started to grow. Just as the cashier notices that Skylar is the kid in the report, Skylar growls in a low tone as he steps foreword, even closer to the TV.

The enraged Skylar, out of instinct, tries to use his Seismic-Clap on the TV (Fail 1-8, Success 9-10)

After the TV, he uses Seismic-Clap on both of the two cameras in the store (Fail 1-8, Success 9-10)

Skylar looks back to the clerk, whom now is cowering behind the counter, afraid for his life. Skylar walks up to the counter and looks down to the clerk. Skylar lets out a hefty yell, “I AM NO MURDERER!”

Skylar turns and lets his rage out in a resounding roar. (Fail 1-5, Success 6-10)

If successful on roar, all the windows shatter in the building and glass rains down upon the clerk.

(1-4 the clerk isn’t injured by the glass, 5-8 the clerk is given cuts all over but none life threatening, 9-10 the clerk is given deadly wounds which cause him to bleed to death)

Skylar storms out of the store regardless of what happened. If both cameras were destroyed, the Police only know that Skylar was there due to the clerk leaving a note or telling them.

If none or one of the cameras were destroyed, the police and the news teams know of his Seismic-Clap

Skylar runs off again into the night. He takes back roads as to avoid the police.

5 Miles outside Tripp
4:47 A.M.
Skylar takes his time traversing the country side. He makes sure to be extra cautious. He ducks in and out of gutters, ditches, and overpasses as he makes his way North-West. He continues along this path for a good 5 and a half hours. In sight he spots an old run down farm house outside of Platte, SD. He makes his way towards it. As he gets near, his cautiousness grows. He checks all around to make sure no one is there or near the place. He makes his way to the barn out back and notices an abundance of old hay and broken down farm equipment. Here he makes a make shift bed and sleeps.

5:10 P.M.

As Skylar sleeps, the National Guard operatives sneak closer to the barn. The robots metallic sounds however wake Skylar from his slumber. He quickly goes to a crack in the barn wall and looks out at the group of soldiers and bots that near the barns doors. He notices the metallic bots then puts a hand on his throat then smiles. Calmly, before they get to the door, he inhales deeply. He feels his entire body start to vibrate. Just as the squad opens the door, Skylar bellows out a deep roar.

“Well, well, well, so the President has declared a state of emergency,” said Dr. Weird after he watched the broadcast. “If you want a war Mr. President I will give you hell on Earth. You have no idea of what I am capable of. But first I should see to Ice Rexes request.”

“STEVE IS TWINKY BACK YET?”

“Yes sir, he arrived a few minutes ago.”

“And the rest?”

“They also have returned, but Sir Frost Raptor just asked for you and Epoch.”

“And I have no intention of turning him down, but I know the NSS is not going to just send him. They will undoubtedly send in a team with him. SO OPEN THE ARMORY AND HAVE THEM MEET ME IN THE GARAGE.” He left the monitoring room and after visiting several others to grab a few supplies which he stuffed in his lab coat he made his way to the garage.

“STEVE, INCREASE THE SECURITY TO LEVEL ONE. If any solder’s come around here I want to give them proper welcome.”

“As you wish sir.”

“THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE HELL OF A PARTY.”

The phone rings.

Akvo casually picks it up.

"Frost Raptor, the President has declared a state of emergency. He has amplified your message. Provided the two you requested don't live in caves they should have heard. you."

"That's great Terry, I'm going to do you a favor and send out the news crews and half the hostages." Akvo replies.

"What's your motive?" Asks Detective Wellington.

"What are you talking about?" Akvo questions unfreezing a section of the hostages.

"You haven't asked for anything, and now you're releasing hostages." Said Terrance as if it was plainly obvious.

"Terry, I've asked for a few things and you've delivered." He unfroze the entrance and ushered out twelve people, the three cameramen, and the security guard. "There go the little darlings now." He refroze the entrance. "I asked for cameras, I asked to be heard. You got me cameras and now the President is relaying my message. Terry you made the president my bitch. You've earned those hostages. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

He hung up the phone.

"You smoke Calvin?" He asks the frozen man.

Shivering he replies, "N-n-no, i-i-it's b-b-bad for you."

"You're not huddled together with the rest of them and you're probably cold. Tell you what, the windows and entryways are covered in about two feet of ice. I'll unfreeze you and hand you one of these ballpoint pens. You should be able dig your way out in about a week. Or you could play things cool."

Calvin nods and Akvo releases him from his icy grip. Calvin falls to the floor and Akvo begins rolling a cigarette.

"What kind of name is Papadakis?" Akvo asks taking a drag.

"What kind of name is Frost Raptor?" Responds Calvin.

Akvo smiles through the cigarette, "Someone on the news called me that. I dunno, they called me a lot of things. It sounded the least lame. Somewhat imposing."

"Why are you doing this?" Asked Calvin taking a seat.

"Why does anyone do anything?" Replied Akvo

"I'm assuming that's rhetorical and you expect me to believe you're crazy." Said Calvin.

"No, I'm serious. We only do things because we believe we'll be better off for doing them. You only have a job here to support your wife and kids and maybe buy payperview and stuffed crust pizza a couple times a month. I'm doing this because I'm sure I'll be better off for it." Replied Akvo finishing his cigarette.

"They're going to kill you though. When you release all of us they will come in and kill you. Or if you kill one of us they will come in and kill you." said Calvin almost regretfully.

"Maybe, but I called out two supers. And if I know better they won't come alone. So the police will have a hard enough time dealing with them." said Akvo looking down, as if brought back to reality, "Say Calvin?"

"Yes?" replied the balding middle aged man.

"You hungry?" Akvo asked looking to him.

"Somewhat." he replied.

Akvo picked up the phone hitting *69

"Terry, get me six pepperoni pizzas. I've got hungry hostages"

He looks to Calvin covering the receiver. "Stuffed crust?"

Calvin nods.

"Stuffed crust Terry. Six pizzas for six hostages. I'm keeping the bank tellers. You can have the citizens." Akvo says before hanging up.

He smiles at Calvin.

“Dr. Takeshi, your immediate presence in Garage A has been requested by Dr. Weird with great urgency.

Takeshi rose from his cot, buttoning up his trench coat and fastening his handgun in a holster….
“Well, well, let’s see what the madman wants this time…heheh.” Takeshi spoke, chuckling a little.

As Takeshi strode down the long corridor towards the garage, a long line of hazard lights attached to the ceiling began to flash a fluorescent red hue.

Suddenly over the speakers, Steve announced…

“Security Level 1 has been initiated, lockdown of Restricted Sectors 45, 89, and 34 complete. Garage’s B-Z have been sealed. Any unidentified personnel will be dealt with, with extreme force.”

“Heheh, I’m already liking how this is sounding, Weird must have something good in store for me…”

Dr. Weirds Lab Garage A
5:15:36 P.M. MT

Takeshi strode into the into the garage instantly catching a glimpse at Weird glaring out into the evening sky.

“So Weird, what kind of mayhem do you have planned this time?” Takeshi spoke, with a cynical smirk.

Umbral had just finished recovering in the Infirmiry when Jackson had contacted him and had told him to meet up with his new partners in the Breifing Room

After Umbral had arrived to the Briefing Room, he had been introduced to Sol, and Illumin and sat in wait for the last member to come in. Though he had been sitting next to his polar opposite nothing would bother him today.

After being beaten by the Danger Room Umbral had become very upset, as he sat in the chair a shadow rose around his shoulder and began to circle around his arm as he thought back on the embarassing moment.

Epoch had just entered the room and was introduced to Umbral, Illumin and Sol by Jackson, and he then introduced himself. Umbral felt the need to shake this mans hand to break the ice a bit more, as he had given him a slightly odd look.

Umbral slowly removed his hood stood up and extended his hand to Epoch as the Shadow that was hovering slightly over his arm tightened on his arm to seem almost as if it was a Tattoo then said, "Hey man, I'm Zach, I guess we will be working with each other."

The Barn

The doors burst open, after Skylars failed attempt to roar, to show one soldier and Five Bots. Skylar wispers “Oh Shit” under his breath before he dives behind a piece of a tractor. He looks around the barn as the robots take aim at the tractor part. He notices seven large chucks of metal scattered throughout the barn. Three of them look like old broken tractors while the others look like equipment. Skylar looks up at the warn rafters of the barn.

“Skylar Raige, give up now and we wont hurt you,” the soldier tries to get him to give up. He and the other bots near the Tractor slowly now, the bots with their tasers ready to fire.

Skylar smiles and aims up at the rafter above the bots and the soldier. He claps twice to try and get the rafter to break and fall. He then Runs behind another piece of equipment and as soon as he leaves cover, all five bots fire the tasers at him. He tries to dodge them as they fire.

The phone rings.

Akvo picks it up.

"Your pizzas are here." said Terrance sounding disgruntled.

"Send in the pizza guy then?" said Akvo.

"I was thinking I would send an officer in to escort my hostages out." Said Terrance.

"I don't think so." Replied Akvo.

"You can't expect me to send in another potential hostage." Said Detective Wellington sounding even more disgruntled.

"One potential hostage for six actual ones. You make the decision." Said Akvo hanging up the phone.

He heard knocking on the icy entrance. He manipulated the ice to remove impurities from it. It instantly became clear. It was the pizza guy.

Good

He unfroze the remaining hostages, leaving the bank tellers, before opening the entryway.

Six hostages flooded out and the pizza guy made his way in.

"Six pepperoni stuffed crust pizzas Frost Raptor." Said the pizza guy.

Akvo eyed him suspiciously.

He's a cop

Sol walked the halls of the NSS station to see a group of heroes run over to a monitor. He jogged over to see President Obama making a speech.

The presidents words hitting Sol like bombs, knocking him down. A state of emergency... caused by one of the NSS' own... let alone... his new partner.

5:16 PM

Standing amongst other heroes talking about the new development Sol was silent. Pondering what to do... A woman in a blue outfit walked over to him.

"You are requested in the Mission Briefing Room, by President Jackson. You'll be meeting your new team members." She spoke quickly, with purpose. And lead him down a long hallway into the briefing room.

Two other men entered a few minutes later and sat down. Sol kept his gaze straight ahead, not even turning to greet the others.

5:30 PM

President Jackson entered the room, followed by Epoch, some other NSS official, and a young girl.

"These," President Jackson started, "are your new partners." Starting from left to right, he named each one, "....and last but not least, Changeling's replacement, Sol, avatar of the suns and stars."

When his name was mentioned Sol stood up. Looking at the young blue haired boy with disdain.

"Mr. Jackson... with all due respect. I did not join the NSS to be part of the clean up crew for this child's actions."

Dr. Weirds Lab South Dakota Badlands
5:12:29 P.M. MT

After following Steve inside of Dr. Weird's hidden laboratories, Yilana decides to take a walk along the hallway, catching glimpses of the different displays of specimen and tubes of formula. She starts to make a face, smelling a very strong, bitter odor of formaldehyde in a room next door. She peers inside and coughs, almost gagging. The room is filled with opened glass cases of different species of mammals and reptiles.

She turns away and leans against a wall, before walking down the hallway again. She strolls off slowly, taking her time to check each room to see if Dr. Takeshi or Dr. Weird is residing in one of them.

All of a sudden, the hazard lights turn bright red, flashing across Yilana's face. It grabs her by surprise, causing her eyes to turn a bright red-orange. She could feel the temperature rise in her veins; she knew something was terribly wrong.

Dr. Weirds Lab Garage A
5:15:23 P.M. MT

Yilana bursts outside, almost tripping over one of the loose wiring. Her high grunt catches Dr. Weird and Dr. Takeshi's attention, their eyes met hers after she caught herself in an embarrassing fall.

She can tell her face is red and avoids eye contact with both of them. "So what's going on here? Has someone found out about our hideout?" she asks while slowly walking up to them. She can feel the cool wind brush against her face, making her feel more comfortable and relaxed. She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, waiting patiently for one of them to answer her question.

Takeshi performed a sudden double take as Yilana clumsily barged into the room, Takeshi immediately could see and hear her distress.

“There’s nothing to worry about……. Or perhap’s there is….” Takeshi spoke pacing about, hands held palm up above his neck.

Takeshi glared back at Hiram, who now once again stared out into the evening sky, a wide cynical grin across his face.

“It’s seems that we are about to have a complete shitstorm on our hands…….and I know for sure….that excites me.” Takeshi spoke, with a maniacal chuckle, pointing out at the 6+ military chopper spotlights approaching in the distance.

“According to Steve, it seems as though your dear old president doesn’t have much of a liking for us…”Supers”…any longer…..and I think we are about to get our chance to show him what we think of his pathetic government bullshit…” Takeshi sternly spoke, a hint of excitement now in his voice.

Takeshi now glared back at Yilana, unholstering his handgun.

“I hope your as ready for this as I am.” Takeshi spoke, a wide grin across his face.

The Barn
5:24 P.M.

As the ratty rafter falls down and crushes Bot 2, the other four shoot their tasers at Skylar. Skylar dodges the first one shot by Bot 1 and the other three miss their shots. Skylar dives behind the next piece of equipment and looks over to notice that the Soldier readies his assault rifle. Skylar notices the barn starting to get a little more shaky after that rafter fell. Skylar looks up at another rafter then smiles as a plan comes to his mind.

Skylar runs further back into the barn, waiting for the bots to move under the next rafter. The soldier having more common sense than the robots stays back. Once under the rafter, Skylar once again uses three claps to try and make this one fall.


Seismic-Claps: If one hits, the rafter falls on the robots and skylar doesn’t continue using claps on the rafter. (Fail 1-8, Success 9-10)

Skylar immediately ducks back behind the equipment and inhales deeply. He lets out a roar filled with rage, in hopes of bringing the barn down.

If the barn falls, Skylar ducks under the equipment he is hiding by to protect himself from the falling debris. The soldier does the same.

If the barn doesn’t fall or the roar didn’t work, Skylar ducks under the equipment waiting for signs of movement.

Watching the search lights in the distance growing ever closer, excitement began to well up inside Dr. Weird to the point of bursting. He hadn’t felt like this since he started out working on his projects and then was fired.

This is it this is what I was waiting for, this is what I wanted.

“Steve.” Dr. Weird had finally broke the silence but he was quit and calm, not the usually Dr.
Weird at all.

“Y, Yes sir what is it.” The A.I. was at an even more unease of the Doctors recent tone of voice.

“Send out a jamming signal, with an overlay signal displaying their location as somewhere else.”

“Right away sir,” a few moments later Steve reported. “It’s done sir, their radio signals have been terminated, and their last location has established by the border.”

Dr. Weird couldn’t handle the excitement any longer, finally he burst out. “EXCELENT STEVE, NOW BLOW THEM A KISS.”

“I am sorry sir, what.”

“COME NOW STEVE, WE HAVE GUESTS APPROACHING AND I WANT TO GREAT THEM PROPERLY.
WE CAN’T HAVE PEOPLE THINKING THAT I AM UNHOSPITABLE NOW.”

“Of course not sir,” Steve said rolling his processors. “What would you like to do then?”

“BRING THOSE CHOPPERS DOWN, LOCK ON TO THEM AND FIRE MISSILE’S #7, 12, 43, 77, 81, AND 108. ANSD BRING OUT 15 SR388’S, WE ARE GOING TO SHOW THEM WHY IT’S THE BADLANDS MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA”

“Right away sir.” Six smoke trails form the recently fired missiles could be seen as they made their way to the unsuspecting helicopters. As Dr. Weird, Twisted Fate, and Yilana stood in the garage eager to face the oncoming events that Epochs foolish emotions had brought upon all the supers everywhere.

“Bwahahahahaha!!....Now that’s what I call a fucking fireworks show, burnnn fuckers burnnnn!!!” Takeshi bellowed, finally letting out his caged up emotion, showing even he has a sense of humor behind his stern outer shell.

Takeshi suddenly began to scrounge around through his trench coat pulling two large Cuban cigars from his coat, offering one to his psychotic comrade, viewing six glowing explosions followed by billows of smoke as the choppers made harsh contact with the ground.

“I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to light these fuckers up…….. Yi, mind giving us a light?….” Takeshi spoke, a wide smirk across his face, still billowing with excitement, adrenaline now pulsating through every vein of his body.

Dr. Weirds Lab Garage A
5:19:36 P.M. MT

Yilana watches as each of the six choppers explode with pieces of material and survivors parachuting down to the ground below. Her heart begins to beat faster, heat building up in her lungs. A mix of carbon dioxide and smoke bellow out of her lungs as she exhales.

Yilana squeezes her hands into tight fists, feeling the temperature rise throughout her whole body. She takes a deep breath as the smoke flows swiftly out of her lungs and closes her eyes gently, letting the cool breeze take her into deep concentration.

Badlands

Dark had heard the massive explosions and rocket screams. He took the opportunity to sprint out away to the west. He knew his way around the west very well. His first problem would be finding antibiotics for his wound. He was surprised how close he was to the wooded area west of the badlands. He quickly took to the trees knowing he could leap from one to the other far faster than he could sprint on the ground.

He quickly did a small bit of scouting to find out where he was. He had traversed this land extensively and soon remembered exactly where he was. From here he would make his way west. He knew the nearest clinic of any kind was in Hot Springs, so he headed straight there.

The Barn
5:26 P.M.

Skylar hears two loud clanks of metal as Bots 1 and 5 fall on their backs. He also hears the sound of the soldiers gun cracking and breaking inside of it. Bot 4 walks around the side of the tractor that Skylar is under. Skylar ducks out the other side and jumps on top of one of the toppled bots, Bot 5 to be precise. He puts his face close to the bot and roars.

"What a disapointing day," Le groaned to Gregory as she walked into her room then flopped down on the bed.

"Well I have some good and bad news for you, Miss. Which would you care for first?"

"What, really? I thought things like that only happened in stories."

"Well, we might have a lead on where to find the Doctor. But--"

"WHAT!?! Well spit it out Gregory! Where is he?" Le sprang up from the bed, even her hair rising with her excitement.

"I have recorded it here," Gregory responded motioning to the tv then hitting play.

After watching the Presidents speech and Akvo's request, Le sat there for a moment, pondering. "How far away is Rapid City from here?"

"Wha-? It's about a 13 hour drive, Miss."

"Flight?"

"Well there's nothing direct, but I would suppose if there was it would be about 4 hours."

"Now were could a rich girl find a helicopter at a time like this?" Le pondered out loud as she pulled out the phone book from the night stand. Just then, the tv displayed a man talking about the wonders of the air, newly opened to the public. Grinning wildly Le said, more to herself than to Gregory, "This is turning out to be my lucky day after all!"

5:33 PM CT
Henry's Helicopter Hayday, just outside of Oklahoma City

"Hello, how much for a private ride on the fastest helicopter that you own?" Le asked the salesman, deciding to skip all the bullshit in favor of time.

"Well, I'm sorry but we don't normally give out private rides. Though it does cost about $500 each time we take one of the bad boys out."

Taking the hint Le smiled sweetly and pulled out her credit card. "How about $1000 for your fastest, with your best driver and little old me?"

"Ah Daddy's plastic," he said, knowingly.

Le's smile twitched a little. "No, Daddy is dead. Thanks for bringing up that painful memory. I assume take off will be as soon as I've signed the safety rules?"

Feeling guilty the man nodded and handed her a clip board.

"Hello, Miss Tang is it? I'll be your pilot for this little joy ride. My name is Daniel."

"Pleased to meet you," Le responded.

"You all set?"

"Yes Sir!" After they were well up into the air, Le decided it was as good a time as any to change course.

If her Hair Arms do not form, then she unbuckles and pulles out a a pistol. "I hate doing things the messy way," she complains to herself, then puts the gun to Daniel's head. "Head to Rapid City, NOW!" She barks.

The light from the explosions and the fires from the wreckage were reflecting in Dr. Weirds goggles. All the while he was just standing there laughing.

“THIS IS STUPENDOUS; I WISH I HAD SOME MARSHMALLOWS, HAHAHAHAHA.”
While holding the cigar that Takeshi handed them he beckoned to Takeshi and Yilana, “I think it is time we go see who’s left. STEVE, BRING ME MY POD AND A COUPLE OF SPEEDERS.”

The speeders were lowered down from the ceiling while Dr. Weirds pod was brought up from an opening in the floor.

“BEAUTIFUL!” Shouts Dr. Weird as he marvels at the mechanism before running over to it and jumping in. “OH, and Steve let’s make it 20 SR388’s instead of 15.”

“Right away sir,” quickly responded Steve, he knew better to question Dr. Weird when he was excited. Seconds later four rows of SR388’s rose up from the floor and took up formation behind Dr. Weird.

Moving to the opening of the garage with the droids keeping formation right behind him, Dr. Weird looked over his shoulder revealing his silhouette in the light of the distant fires. “Let’s go introduce ourselves now, shall we?”

Outside of badlands

Dark crawled on all fours looking back and forth as he crossed the endless terrain. Trees where only in pockets so when he crossed them he jumped through them, but usually he was left to crawling.

He soon came across what he was looking for. South Dakota Highway 40. He crawled southward down it but he soon stopped. Several cars and trucks where stopped along the side of the road. He looked to the east and was shocked he could still see the distant glow of fire. The rocket screams where little more than whispers, but it was still a sight. He crawled unto the top of one few semi trucks and waited. He knew that a truck driver would not sit and wait for to long. And sure enough the truck soon began to roll south.

He took on last glance back at the distant glow and his mind flashed to Dana.

I will free you

It seems we have lost a player, farewell to Illumin, the light bender.

(Noah stood on his tip-toes and wiggled his ears. Yellow plumes of smoke billowed forth from his ear canals.)

Illumin stood before the group of stern looking heroes, he became greatly nervous. Once the introductions had gotten to him, he stuttered a little, "Um.... hey... I.... um....I-i-i..."

President Jackson looked at him with a nasty snarl, "Get on with it, boy."

"I'm not ready for this sir!" Illumin started with visible nerves, "I think I need more training! I can't join this group...."

Everyone's eyes landed on Illumin, and Jackson started again, "If you're gonna bitch out on this Mutha Fucka, then go, but next time, your ass is stickin to it. Now get out of here."

Illumin nodded and sucked in a big, bitter, breath and left the room, looking forward to the menial future of a routine hero.

(The billow of smoke fades and Noah returns)

Everyone went silent as Illumin walked out of their team, forever.

"As for Changeling," President Jackson said, addressing Sol, "You're right, I didn't hire you to clean up after his little mess when he left. I hired you because Station 13 said that you were the best of the best, for your age. Sure, there might be more experienced, older heroes available, but, I wanted you. You match our boy, Epoch, in age, and relative ability. Even better, you got skill, kid, and not just skill, but firepower, we're gonna need that on this team."

Sol stood at attention, as far as Epoch could tell, he seemed a little more at ease with the string of complements.

"Now," Jackson continued, "I don't have time to turn this meeting into a mutha fuckin' tea party. We have some serious shit that needs to get taken care of. I hate to put such young heroes in the line of great danger, however, the Strike Force is going to be our greatest pawn in this war. You kids need to get to Rapid City and either kill or capture this Frost Raptor. You are not to let him fall into the hands of the government. Also, you are to return back here as soon as you have finished to be briefed on your second mission. If you cannot return and fall into the hands of the government, we have already had it established that you three are rogues and not being directed by the NSS.

"You each have fifteen minutes to prepare yourselves and head to the hangar. You will be boarding one of our fastest jets. Keep your head sets on and keep your eyes and ears tuned in. Quantum here will be your intelligence, so keep in touch.

"Everything clear?" Jackson wrapped up.

"You got it," Epoch said, looking to Teaghan and Quantum with discomfort. Glancing back to Umbral and Sol, he exited the room, making haste to his quarters to gear up again.
