Castle of Deluge Inference
In the ‘Chamber of Secrets’

Chronotons all around the room seemed to glow intensely. Some even lost their energy and sacrificed it for the blast. This was going to be big! The energy at Epoch's palm was sparkling and glowing. What a brilliant blue.

The seventeen remaining Korulians looked at Epoch with horror. He would potentially fry them all. Suddenly, one after the other, the group began to retreat. They headed through a corridor beneath the one Epoch and Rixil had used to infiltrate the chamber.

The ball swelled, and Epoch couldn't hold it any longer. It shot forth, impressively flying into the corridor. He hoped none would perish in the blast, but that they would all run, as far as possible. It exploded, reaching a wall, possibly a smaller doorway. The castle moaned and polished stone crumbled and fell to the equally shining floor. At least one exit had been blocked now.

Epoch straightened his stance and turned to Rixil, who was still in awe. Before the gigantic, menacing, statue stood the leader. He muttered something in Korulian and there was suddenly a beautiful burst of color. It surrounded the effigy and burst with a brilliant light. This light was not charged with chronotons.

Epoch attempted to guard his eyes, but he couldn't. Closing them and covering them was hardly enough. Luckily, just as it began, it ended. A stale hum filled the chamber. The terrifying deity had come to life. It loomed over the three onlookers and stared at the CIR leader. If there was any chance this reptile was Rixil's father, would he finally stop to notice his son?

Unmoving, Epoch was filled with terror. He had many questions but could only manage to spill one. "What is this?"

Awestruck, Rixil could only take a step backward as he looked the living statue up and down. He tried to form words so that he could respond to Epoch’s inquiry, but nothing came out of his agape mouth.

Korul’s deities had always been the subject of fairy-tale, something of legends… and yet, a gargantuan god towered above them, constructed of deep red stone and flaming veins of magma between armor pieces and spikes. Truly, he seemed to embody not only untold power, but the essence of life and death. Though the coal-lined eyes seemed to be staring at the closer alien, the others heard its voice in their heads.

"You…. Who has called upon us, the old gods; Now that we have awoken, the six of us have heard your request. I shall grant you the wish you desire."

Tarox floated effortlessly up to greet the god, his entire being glowing as the Korulian grew closer to the ominous figure.

Soon, the stunning light that had flashed at the god’s resurrection filled the chamber once again. Rixil moved to cover his eyes only to realize that he was suddenly on his knees. The glow’s brightness made it hard to tell what was going on, but he swore that tendrils of the light seemed to be reaching out for him. It was somewhat surreal, and a quick thought crossed the young Korulian’s head.

“Am I… dying?”

He had read of humans’ encounters with the afterlife, including accounts of seeing a light at the end of a tunnel. Despite him being consumed by the radiance of whatever was going on, he couldn’t help but note a feeling of similar circumstance.

And then it hit him. It was as if his mind was on fire, being etched into with a burning pen. He couldn’t tell if he was screaming or crying, dead or alive. There was nothing except the sensation of flames in his brain, every other sense dull in comparison. All the information and thoughts he had once had seemed to scrunch together, being pushed into small recesses of his mind as something else took its place. There seemed to be something beyond the discomfort, but Rixil couldn’t make heads or tails of anything in the sea of searing pain. It seemed to go on for an eternity… but suddenly it stopped, a voice that he knew immediately as the God’s echoing in his head.

“Tarox. Your memories have been transferred. We have rewritten the memories of those who witnessed the most recent events. Consider your wish for immortality fulfilled.”

Where there once was light, there now resided darkness; not only in the chamber, but also within the Korulian as he sat there, kneeling before the god who had returned to a statue. A baby lay at the base of the stone alter, where an old Tarox had once stood.

Below the blonde and black bangs of his now older body, there resided a new Tarox. He gave a smirk, chuckling to himself.

“Oh, deities of little faith… I will become a god yet.”

The timeless god disappeared, returning to the mystical void whence it came. Epoch was still baffled and in utter awe. He hadn't even given thought to the fact that Rixil hadn't answered him. The whole thing just seemed unbelievable.

"Rixil," Epoch muttered, stepping toward his kneeling companion. He placed a hand on the young Korulian's shoulder and looked at his face. Rixil was grinning. "Rixil, are you all right?" Epoch asked, unnerved. The reptile's chronotons seemed to glow. He would have given a moment for response, but he heard the strange musing of a baby. "Where'd this child come from?" Epoch asked, confused. He was having trouble recalling the villain that stood where the baby lies now. Even worse, the experience with the god was becoming fuzzy.

The Korulian quickly let the smile fall from his face, a placid expression replacing it as Tarox took in the situation.

It seemed as though the gods had played a cruel trick on him.

Moments ago, he had been casting rituals at the ripe old age of 397 years old. Now his body echoed the age of 50, his physique much more limber and hair short and in his face.

He could remember feeling this way once before. And yet, his childhood seemed to be existent in his reminiscent reverie twice. One memory was filled with the trials of a small, poor family while the other depicted a peaceful life in the castle. It was not hard to decipher that he had recollections of both of his lives- as Rixil and Tarox, the same being.

But as Tarox tried to recall other parts of the transferred memories , his own, older memoirs seemed to be hazy, covered in dust and disarray. Scowling under his breath, he mentally gave a few swears and turned to offer a response to Epoch, the human who he had been accompanying as Rixil.

“Everything happened so fast, and it’s all rather fuzzy… the last thing I remember was a flash of light. The baby…” He said, finding it amusing that he lay as a babe only yards away. “I’m not sure where it came from. But it poses little to no threat. I suggest we get out of this timeline at your nearest convenience though… its cries might bring unwanted company.”

Pulling himself to his feet, the alien made to set a new plan into action.

“Shall we return to regular time? I don’t see what we can do to solve this mystery without another clue. Unfortunately this means it’s back to the beginning of my theories.” The blonde resisted the urge to pull his bangs out of his face, and instead offered the lesser being his hand.

Epoch's mind was still trying desperately to understand what was happening. Was Rixil smiling just now? He didn't have time. The mission must have been over, but he couldn't remember what he had done. Rixil looked odd, especially chronologically. Epoch shook off the feeling and agreed. It must be related to having this new power.

"Let's get back to library and we'll time travel from there." Epoch said. Helping Rixil up, he held the reptile's hand, "ready?". The korulian nodded. Hopefully, the baby would be just fine.

Planet Korul
Castle of Deluge Inference
In the Library

It wasn’t as disorienting the second time, jumping through time and space. Both leaps happened so fast that Tarox really didn’t see the need to speak between the events.

Even as they returned to their normal timeline, he offered no words, his mind preoccupied with other things.

Part of him was almost hesitant to let go of his grip…. To let go of the position he was in with his partner. Although his time spent with the human as Rixil had been short, he still felt a sort of connection with the being. Memories there were fresher than his own, and it was almost… hard to believe that he was going against everything he had been the past 50 years.

Soon, the castle would be gone. Her highness would be gone. If his mentor was on the planet, his feelings as Rixil might prevent him from doing what he was about to do.

The world fell into slow motion around him as he lifted his hands- as he had at the alter moments ago. Runes lit to life as Korulian verses fell out of his mouth. It was almost startling, the change in his tenor. But now was not the time for giving attention to his young, semi-foreign body.

Symbolic circles spilled from where he stood, echoing and pulsating with his words. With eyes closed, he twisted his figure in a dance. At the very least, he wouldn’t need any sacrifices for this summoning. Whirling and twirling his arms madly, pulling at the inner core of Korul with his mind and motions, Tarox continued to toil.

With a finishing stance, the reptile completed the deed, his light speed letting up. In constrast, their surroundings were suddenly set ablaze.

Outside of the tall, library windows, the grassy areas had begun to crack open, the unstable earth shaking the entire stonework as well. The sky that had once been a pale periwinkle now stood deep crimson against the ground. Shadows rose from the crevices that had sprung into existence, taking the form of their corresponding gods. Though smoky at first, they came into actual essence, growing to touch the highest parts of the heavens.

Tarox couldn’t help but look on at the destruction, eyes taking in everything between the fractured glass in front of him. His arms were still outstretched, his breathing heavy because of the dance and his exhilaration.

“The gods… they will pay for their meddling with my wish. And the planet will have to as well, unfortunately.” With the gods released, Korul’s life-force was gone. The effects of such a drastic absence had become more apparent faster than he could have hoped.

In fact, if he didn’t leave his homeland soon, he might share the same fate as his planet and people. There was one thing he could not forget though.

Turning back to face a stunned Epoch, he gave the slightest of smiles. Shooting out his arm, a clawed hand gripped the Earthling’s sleeve as the other reached for the dimensional orb that had been residing in his bagback.

Before the time traveler could react, Tarox thought of the blue and green planet where Epoch was from. His first thoughts were filled of the NSS and a giant squid. But he knew that would be poor planning on his part. No, the best place for them to transport to would be where no one would be able to help the human. Though he was of weaker species, the young blue-haired boy was still a little threatening. And that was why Tarox wouldn’t leave him to meddle more in his past.

“To Earth… I will become a god there.”

Epoch was suddenly home. He knew it. His mind had been blown. Never before had he seen such awe taking destruction. It was a shock, at first, and eventually swelled into immense anger.

"You bastard," Epoch spat, digging his feet into the sand. "I trusted you, and you turned on your word!" Epoch saw a new side to Rixil that didn't appear to be there before. Where could it have come from? Was it that light in the chamber? He didn't know.

"Because of you, I am responsible for all of those lives you destroyed!" Epoch began to pant with rage, "Countless lives, lost, and me as an accessory! I will make you pay for all of the evil you have wrought. You will bear those lives with me."

Epoch saw the twisted looking Rixil, his eyes somehow darker and deeper. The monstrous reptile was proud, Epoch could tell. This fiend had studied him for God knows how long, and now, he had betrayed Epoch. The fury was blinding, and Epoch took a run at Rixil.

He had guessed that Epoch would be like this… a hero that would blame himself for the sake of a planet he didn’t even know. The anger radiating from the blue-haired boy almost made him laugh, and Rixil had to hold back a scoff at the human’s misplaced emotions.

Even as the tightly clenched fist of a new nemesis flew towards his face, the smile that tugged at his lips still remained.

The collision of fist and face sent Rixil spinning back, the reptilian alien only barely managing to keep his footing. Waves of pain immediately branched out from where the hand had connected with his jaw, and he reached up to see if the punch had left blood.

As his older, frail self, the blow might have done more damage. This rejuvenated body, however, offered everything he needed in order to continue his work - including the ability to afford a few punches.

“My current responsibilities are much higher than those I owe you or the dead people of my planet. After waiting 300 years… nobody will be stopping my ascension; least of all, you.”

The words held significance to the younger soul inside Rixil - but while they stung, the punch had stung worse. Tarox’s drive to squelch the obstacle lying in his path was strong. The younger spirit’s hurt at being bested only strengthened this, all feelings of empathy falling to the side.

With a quick flick of his wrist, the rune on Rixil’s right hand glistened to life. Two ornate daggers materialized out of the light above his head, hovering in anticipation as his gaze trailed over Epoch. The Korulian’s piercing pupils fell on the young super’s chest, taking aim.

“Be still and your burdens will disappear.”

Everything around him slowed to a crawl as his body ascended to light speed. Rixil sensed a slight breeze from behind him as Epoch reappeared at his back side. Dodging the human’s blow was effortless though, and he daintily stepped away from the oncoming elbow.

Just as quickly as he slid away from the attack, the Korulian quickly shot his hand out to seize Epoch by the throat. Rixil could feel the strong but slow pulse of his opponent below his fingers. Squeezing, he watched his claws draw small beads of blood from the soft pale skin in his grasp.

“If you really want to carry the weight of two worlds upon your shoulders, be my guest. But know that one day, I will return to take this planet from you and mold it into what I want. Until then… good luck and farewell.”

With that, Rixil tore his hand from Epoch and ran.

Though he was sure that the time-traveler would one day get in his way again, he could not bring himself to kill the human. The blue-haired boy had once been his reason for living, and that fact still nagged at the back of his overly-occupied mind.

“One day I’ll relieve him of his duties.” Rixil promised to himself as he raced to nowhere in particular.

Planet Earth
Somewhere in Nevada

Epoch dropped to his knees and landed with his hands supporting him. His black and blue hair drooped sadly to the ground. Crimson dripped like rubies from a purse as his neck bled gently. He gasped. He cursed.

That reptile, that bastard, had abused him. He completely used him. Aquilo was right! Was there ever a reason for being spontaneous and heroic? It has seemed, recently, that every attempt he had made had lead him to destruction.

He would carry that pain. Those people, even though he didn't know them - never knew them. Rixil would have to come to realize that. Rixil, like that awful man in the goggles, had been so easily willing to throw lives into chaos, simply for their own gain. It was meaningless.

Epoch's new, dark, eyes could see the chronotons dancing through the universe. They vibrated with him. They could not embrace his anger. "Rixil, you will understand the weight of your decisions." Epoch muttered. The energy pools in his cells expanded as the chronotons welled up into him. A Supernova could be felt, resonating in the distance of Epoch's being.

Suddenly, He calmed, knowing its importance to withhold himself. He wiped his eyes as he stood up. his neck was crusting over with coagulated blood. He would heal, he would survive. He balanced himself and huffed as he tried to cope with his situation.
